Simon Phipps
Chief Open Source Officer Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Simon Phipps is the Chief Open Source Officer at Sun Microsystems, co-ordinating Sun's extensive participation in free and open source software communities, promoting consistency and best practice and actively participating in the global conversation they express. Prior to this appointment he co-founded Sun's pioneering staff weblog facility at blogs.sun.com. Simon joined Sun in mid-2000.
A computer industry insider of 20+ years standing, Simon has worked in such hands-on roles as field engineer, programmer and systems analyst as well as being involved at a strategic level in some of the world's leading computer companies. Fascinated by the idea of 'action at a distance', he worked with OSI standards in the eighties, on the first commercial collaborative conferencing software in the nineties, and helped introduce both Java and XML at IBM.
Simon has served on the Community Advisory Boards of OpenSolaris and currently serves on the GNOME, OpenSPARC and OpenJDK communities. He holds a degree in electronic engineering and is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the British Computer Society where he is on the committee of his local branch.

Duncan Bennet
Vice President & Managing Director Sun Microsystems Australia & New Zealand.
Duncan Bennet is the Vice President and Managing Director of Sun Microsystems Australia & New Zealand responsible for overall growth strategy of the local business.
Duncan was previously Sales Director of Sun ANZ for four years overseeing year-on-year successful local sales growth and has more than 30 years experience in the technology and software development industry.
Prior to this, Duncan held a number of positions at Sun including the Managing Director of Sun's software joint Venture with Netscape called iPlanet.
Duncan joined Sun in 1999 following the acquisition of Forte Software Incorporated, the market leader in high end distributed computing development tools. He launched and ran the Australia and New Zealand operations from late 1995, building a highly profitable blue chip customer base.
Over the past 30 years, Duncan has been involved in several start-ups for US-based technology companies, including Pyramid Technology, Prime Computer and Forte Software. His success in these ventures is evident. In every case, their market share in Australia was significantly higher than the normal two per cent the Australian market represents in the global IT market.
Duncan has a Bachelor of Business degree majoring in Data Processing from Massey University in New Zealand.

Ross Altman

As CTO for SOA and Business Integration, Ross Altman focuses on the direction, development and communication of Sun's business integration technology vision and strategy.
Mr. Altman came to Sun through Sun's acquisition of SeeBeyond, the application integration and SOA development tools vendor. Prior to joining SeeBeyond, Mr. Altman was director of integrated technologies at EDS. Before working at EDS, Mr. Altman was a vice president and research director with Gartner, where his research focused on the use of integration middleware to support composite applications, straight-through processing and business process management.
Mr. Altman holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Rutgers University. In addition, he has authored more than 150 articles on application development and integration and has delivered more than 100 presentations on these subjects at industry conferences and seminars.

Maurice Bonotto
Solutions Architect - Desktop Software Sun Microsystems Australia and New Zealand
Maurice Bonotto brings 14 years of desktop computing experience to his role as Solution Architect for Desktop Software for Sun Microsystems – Australia and New Zealand.
A Sun veteran, Maurice joined Sun twelve years ago and he specialises in the Sun Desktop Virtualisation products. From his role at Sun and previous roles, he also has a high level of knowledge with Sun, Wyse, Citrix, Microsoft and other desktop products in the industry.
Maurice has been involved in architecting, piloting and deploying Desktop solutions in Australia and New Zealand, across many different industries, including Government, Health, Education, Call Centres and Retail. Maurice also works closely with Sun Desktop products engineering and development teams to help develop the product.

Daniel Cifuentes
Solutions Architect for Desktop and Mobility Sun Microsystems Australia and New Zealand
Daniel Cifuentes brings more than 16 years of industry experience to his role as Solution Architect for Desktop and Mobility for Sun Microsystems.
In this role, Daniel is responsible for delivering refreshing solutions that challenge the traditional model of PC-centric desktop architectures to government and enterprise customers, as well as assisting and educating the partner community. Daniel also has deep ties into the product and global engineering teams that sit at the heart of Sun's novel approach to the desktop.
A Sun veteran, Daniel has been at Sun for almost ten years ago, and has been deployed into many pre-sales roles at Sun spanning partner sales, direct technical sales support through to solution sales support and solution architecture across Australia and New Zealand. He was also a key designer of the Sydney Sun Solution Centre, Sun's showcase of technology and solutions for customers and partners.
Daniel has a Degree in Computer Engineering and postgraduate Business studies from Universidad Simón Bolívar in Caracas, Venezuela.

Michael Czapski
Advanced Solutions Architect - SOA/BI/Java CAPS Sun Microsystems Australia and New Zealand
Michael Czapski has 25 years of experience in the IT industry, the last 10 of which in the field of Enterprise Application Integration, with Internet Security, Web Technologies, Enterprise Architecture and Web Services playing increasing role in his day to day activities.
Michael is responsible for providing Java CAPS expertise and leveraging Java CAPS capabilities in solutions spanning the spectrum of Sun software offerings.
Michael authored a number of technical whitepapers on topics ranging from scripting ICAN eVision with JavaScript to implementing Web Services Security with Java CAPS. He is a Java CAPS Apostle and an active contributor to Java CAPS communities and forums.
Michael held a number of positions with SeeBeyond, in development, delivery and presales, ranging from Senior Consultant to Advanced Solutions Architect, before the company was acquired by Sun in November 2005.
Michael holds degrees of Master of eBusiness Technology and Bachelor of Applied Science (Computing) from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Chris Fleischmann

Chris's IT career began as a C/C++ programmer writing low-level API's (device libraries) for serial communications to UPS power supply systems and developing real-time graphical point of sale systems. In later years Chris presented/lectured on a range of different programming topics helping lecturers and tutors help students.
Chris has over 8 years of commercial experience using Java, Java Products and Java based solutions. His skill-set is diverse, ranging from being a Java developer to running multinational, multimillion-dollar Enterprise Java projects, positioning Java and Java related solutions for ANZ customers and recently taking up a new role as a Java Ambassador for Sun Microsystems.

Harris Scarfe is an Australian based privately owned retailer with a focus on homewares, small electrical and apparel.
Tony believes IT capability, agility and alignment has a foundation in simplification, standardisation and standards. He believes complexity is the enemy of innovation and efficiency. A "less is more" approach has seen him lead substantial reductions in IT costs at several organisations whilst simultaneously improving project "DIFOT" (delivery in full on time) for new initiatives.

Brendan Marry

Brendan Marry brings nearly 10 years industry experience to his role as

In his role, Brendan is responsible for delivering integration solutions

Brendan provides technical and strategic guidance regarding the adoption

Tony has managed, architected and implemented enterprise Healthcare integration solutions across Australasia for over 18 years. He has been the IT manager and director, for a number of Health organisations. In this time he has also managed the design and delivery of leading edge, international enterprise software solutions.
John Havers

As CEO and co-founder of First Point Global, John is responsible for the company's strategy, partnerships, business expansion and profitability. Over the last 8 years, FPG has transitioned from a product focused services company to a leading consulting and integration firm, specialising in the domain of Identity Management. Over a 30 year period John has worked in technical, sales and management roles. He first learned of his penchant for “companies purple” when representing Sun Microsystems at The Lionel Singer Corporation in the early ‘80s, then again at Sun Microsystems in the early ‘90s, and today through First Point Global as a Sun Principal Partner. John’s other great passion for Identity Management emerged while Managing Director of Dascom in the mid ‘90s, and continued following IBM’s acquisition of Dascom in 1999. He went on to co-found First Point Global in 2000 with renowned security architect, Jan Zeilinga.

David Codelli is Group Manager of Segment Marketing at Sun Microsystems. He holds a bachelor's degree in Information and Computer Science from Georgia Tech. Arjen Lentz is the founder of Open Query, providing independent training and consulting for MySQL in the Australia/New Zealand region. Prior to starting Open Query in 2007, Arjen joined MySQL AB as employee#25 and first APAC employee in 2001, with responsibilities ranging from the MySQL reference documention, to AU/NZ training, global community relations, the MySQL Users Conference (2005-2006), and support engineering.
Arjen is a frequent speaker at conferences and user groups, and he is active in Australian Open Source organisations such as Open Source Industry Australia (founding director 2004-2008), Linux Australia (press team), Open Source Developers Club (OSDC 2007 conference director, exec member 2007-present).
