Open Storage is fast becoming a reality and the launch of the Sun Storage J4000 Arrays earlier this year was another step in the journey.

The Sun Fire X4500 storage server family is the world’s first range of Open Storage servers running the OpenSolaris operating system and ZFS.

The Sun Fire X4500 combines fast, energy efficient dual core AMD Opteron processors with the highest storage density – up to 48TB in 4U.

The storage server also includes Installation Services that help you fully utilise the industry's most open platform, built on open source technologies and open standards

In April 2008, Sun announced new developer tools and expanded Open Storage solutions to deliver low cost infrastructure.
